the shape of things: architecture, design, interior, art, style

A low table that defies the table typology. Instead of having a flat table-top surface, the MANHATTAN table is shaped as an asymmetrical composition of wooden blocks.

Based on the tradition of modernism, on the geometries of Mondrian and Russian Constructivism, Roderick Vos conceives the table as a landscape formation that requires its user to experiment and rediscover its function. A beautiful composition that is much more practical than expected.

Roderick Vos about ‘MANHATTAN’:

‘There are no rules for making a great composition.
We seem to neglect in design the qualities of asymmetrical composition and unevenness.
The empty space between these wooden ‘blocks’ is an essential part of the composition and makes
this low oak table for dutch brand Linteloo look so interesting.

You can not find tree roots grown evenly spaced nor clouds in perfect geometrical shapes.
Perfection rarely occurs in nature, so why not experiment with this theme in design?…’

The MANHATTAN table was presented at Via Tortona 37 during the Milan fair 2012.
