Gallery Judy Straten presented Ka-Lai Chan’s most recent work titled ‘The Ordinary Family’ (2012) at OBJECT Rotterdam. ‘The Ordinary Family’ is a collection of used furniture carefully selected and modified by the designer. Partly inspired by stories of the designer’s own family or observations of families around her, these unexpected, targeted interventions change the programmatic function of the objects transforming them to symbolic representations.
