‘Faced with a framework in a peripheral area of the city, characterized by residential buildings arranged randomly and clinging to existing infrastructure promoted by proximity to the industrial zone, has now been possible to identify a ‘void’ of formal and architectural references near the ground.
The requirement for a pool with the dimensions of an Olympic swimming lane, which could be thermally controlled in winter, as the main premise of the project became the starting point for the design of the proposal. With visual axes and various cross functional pathways, housing becomes more inward and to the landscape of the Serra da Estrela, closing the sides for engaging unattractive.
The relationship indoor/swimming, indoor/mountain views, the visual relationships interiors crossed, built/unbuilt and the complicity with sunlight were the main factors that led the act projectual in programmatic response sensitive to the topography.
It is a silent and timely intervention, where the choice of materials demand neutrality versus the array of built green space leftover portion, which for lack of references surrounding, created their own references, with the aim of giving personality and contemporaneity.’
