the shape of things: architecture, design, interior, art, style

Reminiscent of 15th century armour and renaissance clothing, Atelier XJC sàrl experiments have chosen to dress figures of all ages. Middle aged men and women proudly pose to the camera wrapped with armour-like delicate head or body pieces.

‘Founded in 2001 by Xavier Perrenoud, also a Professor on the Master of Advanced Studies in Luxury Design at the University of Art and Design Lausanne (ECAL), Atelier XJC possesses unique know-how in the design of luxury products, jewellery and prestige watches. Spurred on by its collaboration with prestigious, internationally renowned manufacturers, this agency offers a wide range of services, in particular the design of new products, jewellery and packaging, and also the organisation of collections. Comprising a team of six people, it assures the complete development of a brand concept and excels in management consultancy for the luxury industry.

In parallel with its activities, in the space of almost a year, Atelier XJC has developed a multidisciplinary research structure in the centre of La Chaux-de-Fonds touching on all aspects of design. Its approach pays particular attention to the study of components and materials in order to create original, off beat objects, while retaining specific features underpinning that manufacturer’s reputation. Taking part in this first experiment, under the direction of Xavier Perrenoud and Marco Hug, were: Dimitri Bähler, Marc-Olivier Métrailler and Ismaël Studer.

Today, this publication (featuring contributions by Pierre Keller, Honorary Director of the
ECAL, and Patrick Reymond, co-founder of the Atelier Oï) reveals to the world the first fruits of these ‘experiments’. The photographs taken by Milo Keller & Julien Gallico reflect this desire to unite different disciplines, such as, in this particular case, fashion and design.
This first wave of creations under the Atelier XJC banner heralds a new decade dedicated to jewellery and luxury watch making, to be enriched also by other more experimental fields.’
