the shape of things: architecture, design, interior, art, style

30.08 2011

The DressedUndressed collection, by Tokyo based designers Takeshi Kitazawa and Emiko Sato is inspired by street culture and by the contrast of light and shadow and intensely explores the territory of androgynous aesthetics creating an implying unisex collection. Original Sin, the duo’s Autumn Winter 2011 collection, is inspired by the guilt felt by Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden and the serpent that lead them to temptation and explores the origins of sexuality. Total black, rarely contrasted by bright white, imposes the underground gothic tone, intensified by the bondage nuances of the leather harness belts. Layering, asymmetries and minimalism reveal the urban modernity that characterizes the designers’ philosophy. Cross-dressing elements continuously shift the collections aesthetics from masculinity to femininity and vice versa. Original Sin, carefully distancing from mainstream trends, is a subtle tribute to alternativeness.
