Iris van Herpen, winner of the Mercedes-Benz Dutch Fashion Award, will be premiering her avant-garde creations at the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in Berlin in July. The show will be held on 8th July 2011. Iris van Herpen’s work is inspired by the interplay of craftsmanship and innovative materials. The designer uses metallic silk, polyamide powder or smocked leather, working with sculpture-like, futuristic cuts and surprising contrasts.
“For me, fashion is an expression of art, one that is connected very closely with myself and my body. I understand fashion as being an interpretation of personality, combined with desires and attitudes in a cultural context,” says Iris van Herpen, describing her design philosophy.
In Iris van Herpen, Mercedes-Benz and ELLE are supporting an up-and-coming new face on the fashion scene whose hallmarks are individualism, unusual designs and an artistic interpretation of fashion.
