Cool curlers with a street attitude.

Curling Players

This is not a toy …or is it?
London based director, designer and sculptor Fabrice Le Nezet has designed and created the prototypes of the ”Curling Player Toys.” The title of this project indicates that these little figures are indeed toys. These strange curlers, with their funny brooms and high-tech style, may not look that athletic, but definitely have a street look. Blasé, bored, somehow clumsy and light-years away from the superhero toy icon, they certainly don’t seem to share the Olympic ideal! Their asymmetrical and meticulously distorted bodies, their cool attitude and oversized zips evoke a slight nuance of irony that only an adult would sense, leaving us wondering about who the Curling Players really are. And that makes them even more adorable.

“I have designed and modeled those characters and then a prototyping company produced the 3D print.
The result was great, but I had to smooth every piece by hand using sand paper.
This took me actually a lot more time than I expected.
I have created two parts silicone molds for each shapes and finally I was able to cast several copies of my characters in polyurethane.
The process was a bit painful as I was learning every step while doing it.
So, lots of mistakes, lots of hours lost… but I although learned a lot.”
