In 2006 the Pachleitner Group, which specialises in spectacles and jewellery set up a two stage competition for an office, headquarter building, a rent out wing, a flagship store and restaurant which was won by GSarchitects. The office-building MP09, named after the owner of the firm, Michael Pachleitner, also called Black Panther and hence its black facade, was to form a landmark for the city-entrance of Graz. The property is on the border districts of Graz Liebenau Jakomini and south of the former east feeder road (now Liebenauer tangent).
Its dynamic form consists of two separate buildings placed on a raised platform that takes advantage of the sloping site to accommodate the garage, storage room, offices and retail space. These two buildings specifically the Uniopt Pachleitner Group headquarters and the office space to let are connected by a glass atrium, a large central foyer and a staircase which leads to dynamic open air bridges with spectacular views. On the ground floor the restaurant, shops and conference room are located. All spaces were designed to fit with Michael Pachleitner philosophy: ‘When you spend for 80 percent of his life with work, you should spend this time in a pleasant environment.’
