An intriguing mixture of lo-tech and hi-tech, the Bravais armchair is an organic form inspired by nature and realised as a handcrafted low-polygon 3d model.

The Bravais armchair is part of a collaborative project between furniture designer Liam Hopkins and artist Richard Sweeney at Lazerian studio, Manchester. The armchair’s organic shape – inspired by structural forms in nature, such as a wasp nest – is an assembly of structural triangular prisms. Based on CAD 3d modelling, the organic form was divided into triangular planes that were printed and used as cut-outs. Over two hundred cardboard components were hand-cut and glued together to create the Bravais Armchair.
