Fabrizio Cestari, is one of the finalists at the Lifestyle category, Commercial section of the professional competition, with his work SURFISM – A NEW RELIGION. The two images presented, are part of a series of ten colour photographs loosely inspired by the theme of passion. Classic imagery of painting, detached from the original context, ironically illustrate the passion for the insignificant and mundane. In fact the inspiration seems to be drawn from the kitsch 50’s religious prints and not directly from the high-art originals themselves. Quite proper for a Last Supper variation where the table is replaced by a surfboard or one of the Road to Calvary with – once again – a surfboard.
