Retro hi-tech aesthetics nostalgia in a world of touch screens and glossy white design.

Tourbillon

The new Tourbillon Bi-Cylindrique from the Montblanc Collection Villeret 1858 was unveiled to the public at the Salon International de la Haute Horlogerie (SIHH) in Geneva. The new Montblanc wristwatch is an innovation for modern haute horlogerie. It is the first wristwatch with a tourbillion escapement and a cylindrical double balance-spring. It also reveals the mechanisms and mode of function of the legendary heures mystérieuses display, the paper-thin sapphire disks with printed black hands and the mechanism that propels them, making the hour-hand and minute-hand seem to float.

The Tourbillon Bi-Cylindrique is a wristwatch with a handcrafted mechanism of exceptional artisanship exposed to the eye of the spectator. The exposed mechanisms are undoubtedly intriguing. The contrast of its retro hi-tech aesthetics with the glossy white design of the contemporary digital world is even more intriguing. It unveils a notion of nostalgia, not to say a fetishism, which contradicts the post millennium touch screen world.
