BURKHARDT/MÖLLMANN’s juxtaposition of flowers and warrior armours create this intriguing impressive collection. Linear pieces of fabric branch out adding structure to the fabric’s multi layering. Black & white form a canvas upon which red streaks are applied.
Geometries belonging to masculine garments of previous historic periods, such as the samurai armour, are detached from their original context and placed in conjunction with feminine materials and silhouettes. The resulting mixture is an unexpectedly poetic, serene and delicate interpretation of the aggressive urban way of life. Protective armour for day-to-day life that allows the expression of femininity and sensitivity.
The Spring/Summer collection 2011, B/M 111, is inspired by flowers and warriors.
BURKHARDT/MÖLLMANN’s third collection is dominated by the usage of complex sewing techniques. Folds, mostly hand crafted, take the form of flowers and seem to grow out of the fabric and build floral structures. The flowers appear as delicate details or voluminous surfaces.
In contrast to the feminine and flowery aspect of the collection is a plain, firm cut that has its origin in different types of uniform and armour. Garments traditionally worn by warriors like the samurai, the toreros and the medieval knights serve as inspiration.
Further contrasts are created through the application of different materials and opposing tones of colour. Seemingly masculine cloth is combined with fragile chiffon, black and grey shades are paired with white and dark red.
Another stylistic device BURKHARDT/MÖLLMANN likes to work with, as can be seen in the preceding collections, is the ribbon. The linear and rather graphical qualities, combined with flowery and feminine elements, further add to the collection’s idea of contrast.
B/M 111 is dominated by the interaction between feminine and masculine, delicate and graphical elements.
BURKHARDT/MÖLLMANN presents a collection which is balancing the line between extravagant and decent fashion, but, despite being fancy, can be integrated perfectly well in day-to-day life.
