ASHES, a tribute to workers clothes by KRIS VAN ASSCHE. Catwalk photography – Patrice Stable. CLICK IMAGES TO ENLARGE

A working class hero’s outfit covered in ashes. The Spring / Summer collection of KRIS VAN ASSCHE seemingly pays tribute to the workers’ clothes with raw, dirty and worn out outfits. Tool belts and safety shoes emphasise the concept. Suits are dominant, without restraints, light, creased and with rolled up sleeves, ready for work. The clothes’ colours range from black to dusty gray, hued, as if they are covered with dust or ashes at work.

Of course, the ASHES collection is not for the worker, it is rather about the worker. It is a representation; like a Richard Avedon portrait of miners or field workers, remembrance of a disparaging side of our world constantly suppressed from our sight.
