Objects familiar and banal take on new life in this installation by Jessica Stockholder. Its centerpiece, a column of random plastic objects brightly colored at the bottom moving to white and transparent as it moves upward, is placed on a structure that simulates a pier. Placed inside the Palacio de Cristal (Crystal Palace), the artwork mirrors a structure that might exist outside the building. The exterior is projected to the gray interior of the building. Suspended fans create a breeze simulating natural wind. A new prospective reality, reminiscent of the installation’s context, is constructed.
