The construction and inspiration of this project revolves around the “punk” concept. Punk is a musical genre emerged by the mid-seventies. It is known for being a simple, sloppy and harsh kind of music, and it sprang as a mockery of the strictness of the conventionalisms that hid several forms of social and cultural oppression. As time went by, punk music became a means to express and provoke in order to show the disapproval towards what punk artists considered a society of oppressor and limited thinking.
In this way, Rat Scabies claims to be a tribute to the individual liberty and the freedom of thought. It sets out a form of social, philosophical and idealistic awareness, and that is reflected in the style of Gori de Palma’s new garments. The collection seeks to bother and, primarily, to question the limits of the good taste, the morality and the tradition. It is a reflection about our way of living, encouraging the spectators to look for new forms of expression, as well as to fight for the individuality and to cut oneself off from conventionalisms.
The project, exhibited in Torre Amat in an event included inside the Luxury Experience circuit, is a fashion show that fluctuates between that purely conventional and the non-conventional. With a clear athmospherical tension, the show tries deliberately to break the borders between the journalists and the models, that is to say, between the public and the actors. It is about a crowded situation in which individuals’ position in front of the other side will be a little awkward. After all, this catwalk oscillates between the controversy and the witticism, the conceptual and the absurd. The aim of Rat Scabies is to create a dialogue between creator and spectator while reconsidering our position in the world.
