Chad Oppenheim of Oppenheim Architecture + Design (OAD) has been recognized with three AIA Florida Honor & Design Awards. Honored for life enhancing designs, both built and proposed, OAD has received recognition at the AIA Florida 2010 Annual Convention August 19-21.
An Unbuilt Honor Award went to the Campus Center for Miami Dade College, a LEED certified campus extension with highlights including solar hot water collectors and wind turbines located on the roof.
The Unbuilt Merit Award went to the Mandarin Oriental Tree-top Villas, eight villas designed for Mandarin Oriental Group in Dellis Cay, Turks and Caicos Islands. The highlight of the blueprint for the eight villas was the honouring of nature by placing the structure above the tree-tops to allow the natural landscape to remain untouched and flow through the design.
The realized Simpson Park in Downtown Miami won a Built Merit Award. The project was a collaboration between OAD, Swiss architect Enzo Enea and Audi as sponsor. Known as a “hardwood hammock” naturally surviving ecosystem, Simpson Park’s entrance was a donation to the City of Miami.
Models and renderings for the Campus Centre for Miami Dade College and Mandarin Oriental Treetop Villas can be seen at the MASTER/Plan: Visionary Architects and their Utopian Worlds exhibition organized by Biennale O, September 10-December 23. The exhibition will be at The Cornell Fine Arts Museum at Rollins College in Winter Park, Florida.
